HistoryI purchased this 99T in February 2000 for $100 with a cracked cylinder head. The car was in poor condition overall but did have a mostly straight original body. I installed a rebuilt turbo b-engine with a ported cylinder head, a new turbo and drove it for several years as a rat rod.
I decided to restore the car in 2008. I did almost all of the work myself.
Body was stripped to a bare shell. All glass, bumpers and trim were removed. Bodywork was performed on the passenger side quarter panel and hatch. The body was primed and block sanded over a period of several weeks. It was then sent out to a paint shop for final prep and then sprayed in the original cardinal red metallic.
I was able to locate new trim, lenses and a new windshield on the internet over the 2-year span of the project. I upgraded to a 900 rear axle and replaced all suspension bushings front and rear. New Bilstein shocks all around and new Pirelli Cinturato tires.
The engine has had Mobil 1 since the rebuild in 2000. The transmission was rebuilt by Scanwest in 2003 and has had Redine mtl ever since. The 99T drives very well. I try to drive it whenever possible. It is now a garaged weekend/Summer car.
